A regional non-profit 501(c)(3) charity meeting regional needs
with regional resources
A Gospel ministry changing lives through preaching the Gospel,
feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, rehabilitating the
addicted and restoring the ex-offender
Privately funded by individuals, churches, corporations,
businesses, civic and community organizations
No taxpayer or United Way funding.
All services are free. There is never a charge.
• Mission Services:
Teaching and Preaching of the Gospel four classes/services
daily (M – F); Saturday three sessions
Emergency Shelter (40 beds), showers required of all who stay
overnight, new underwear is provided
Urban Training Institute: residential recovery/transition programs
Nutritious meals served three times daily 365 days a year
Weekly distribution of meals to inner City children
FIC (Families in Crisis) food and clothing distribution based on
verification by clergy or agency referrals
Three Bargain Centers are student-managed and all proceeds
fund service programs
• UTI (Urban Training Institute, year long residential/transitional
program)
A. Clean Start, residential recovery addicts (22 beds) B. Fresh
Start, transition for ex-offenders (38 beds)
Adult Education paradigm (participants are ” students,” not
program members)
Character, academic and vocational based curricula
Relational Rehabilitation – Practical Preparation
“High Standards, Strong Boundaries, Clear Direction”
Zero tolerance for drugs, alcohol, tobacco, violence or threat of
violence
• Qualifications for enrollment in the Urban Training Institute (UTI):
A. Clean Start: Mature in one’s misery, sick and tired of being
sick and tired, willing to do whatever it takes
B. Fresh Start: Recommendation, demonstrated commitment to
Christ, mentorship and employment
C. Clean Start and Fresh Start require the following:
Willingness to live in and relate to a community of Christians
Teachable, willing to study, to learn and to change
Community Service without compensation and work as
permitted with required tithing and savings
Responsibility, Accountability and Restitution, including child
support and restitution
Vibrant participation in an approved church
Enrollment based on openness to receive
instruction/direction and willingness to change.

2014 Program Report
Urban Training Institute
Volunteer faculty, pastors and volunteers have continued in the past year
to achieve the goals of the ministry by proclaiming the Gospel, feeding
the hungry, sheltering the homeless, rehabilitating the addict, and
restoring the ex-offender. Old Savannah City Mission continues to be
uniquely positioned to offer a holistic approach caring for people by
addressing the mind, body, soul and spirit of all who seek refuge in this
part of the vineyard. During 2014, the following programmatic goals
were achieved:
92,183 served meals
Received significant food support in 2014 from Second Harvest Food
Bank, Savor Savannah Catering ($135,000 value), Paul Kennedy
Catering, River Boat Catering, and Barnes Catering.
18,748 nights of shelter
2,572 case management hours provided to residential students
13,279 towels provided
11,801 wash cloths provided
11,783 pairs of underwear provided
7,052 pairs of socks provided
5,840 T-shirts provided
5,272 pairs of pants provided
4,578 shirts provided
53 students enrolled in the UTI program
202 hours of spiritual growth and character development classes
576 – 50 minute Gospel Services
802 people accepted Christ after one of our Gospel Services
90 friends and neighbors obtained permanent housing after completing
short-term case management goals.
8 residential students completed early substance abuse recovery group
classes
15 residential students completed individual counseling sessions with
our partner agency Heads Up Guidance Services.
300 students and friends and neighbors received healthcare treatment
via Union Mission’s medical outreach site at Old Savannah City Mission.
150 suits received from the yearly National Suit Exchange in conjunction
with Men’s Wearhouse.
100 clothing garments donated from Men’s Wearhouse from their
merger with Joseph A. Bank’s Clothiers.
